Karen Gorback
Writer

Karen has a doctorate in education and extensive experience as a teacher, counselor and administrator. Her prize-winning short stories include: "The Curative Powers of Chocolate," "Hot Wings, Inc.," and "Dancing with Dreams." She has also written several one-act plays selected for production at the New Works Festival at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, California. Karen was awarded first place by the Ventura County Writers Club in their Inaugural Memoir Contest for her memoir titled "Sinks and Cabbages."


With a love of teaching, Karen often teaches writing classes at Conejo Valley Adult School and is available to speak to writers’ clubs on a variety of topics, including:

  • Writing a Memorable Memoir
  • Designing Dazzling Dialogue
  • Show, Don’t Tell

Karen has embraced leadership roles in the San Fernando Valley Branch of the California Writers Club and the Ventura County Writers Club. She is also an active member of the Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. 

Finally, Karen is proud to volunteer on the Advisory Council for the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging and serves as a Senior Senator in the California Senior Legislature, where she researches and write proposals for potential legislation to improve the lives of older adults and people with disabilities.
